Studio City neighborhoods
Ventura Boulevard
Studio City's main street, about a mile and a half from Coldwater Canyon to Carpenter Ave. Its core is one-story storefronts from the 1920s through the 1950s, with offices and apartment buildings along the corridor.
Laurel Terrace
About 12 flat blocks just south of Ventura, off Laurel Canyon Blvd, and one of the earliest neighborhoods in Studio City. Mostly one-story Spanish, Colonial, and Ranch-style homes built from the 1920s to the early 1950s.
Tujunga Village
A walkable block of 1930s–1950s shops and cafes on Tujunga Ave between Moorpark and Woodbridge, first laid out in 1927 by Mack Sennett's development company.
North of Ventura
The flat streets between Ventura Blvd and the Ventura Freeway, around Beeman Park and Moorpark St. Mostly single-family homes on a street grid, with apartment buildings along the larger streets.
Silver Triangle
Known locally as the Silver Triangle: single-family homes south of Ventura Blvd, roughly between Whitsett Ave and Laurel Canyon Blvd, below Fryman Canyon.
Colfax Meadows
Known locally as Colfax Meadows: single-family streets north of Ventura Blvd up to Moorpark St, roughly between Colfax and Tujunga Aves.
Along the LA River
Streets like Valleyheart Dr and Agnes Ave near the river, close to Radford Studio Center and the river greenway. Single-family homes, including a group of 1930s Colonial Revival houses on Agnes Ave.
Hillsides & canyons
South of Ventura up to Mulholland Drive, around Fryman Canyon, Laurel Canyon, and Wrightwood Dr. Almost all single-family homes on hillside lots, from 1930s Period Revival to 1960s Mid-Century Modern. Lots near Mulholland fall under a scenic parkway plan with its own design review.

Studio City's public schools are run by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Carpenter Community Charter, a K–5 school founded in 1924 as Carpenter Avenue Elementary, is on Carpenter Ave. School assignments go by home address, so check any property with LAUSD's Resident School Identifier.

Is Studio City its own city?
No. Studio City is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, so City of LA rules, fees, and services apply. It has its own Neighborhood Council, certified in 2002, and it is split between City Council Districts 2 and 4. See the Studio City Neighborhood Council.
Where does the name Studio City come from?
From the film studio Mack Sennett built on Ventura Blvd near Radford Ave in the late 1920s. The area around the lot took the name Studio City. The studio later became Republic Studios, then CBS Studio Center, and it has been Radford Studio Center since a 2021 sale.
Who provides utilities in Studio City?
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) provides electricity and water. LA Sanitation & Environment handles weekly trash, recycling, and green-bin pickup for single-family homes and buildings of four units or fewer. See LADWP and LA Sanitation.
Does the LA "mansion tax" apply when you sell a home in Studio City?
It can. Studio City is inside the City of Los Angeles, so the City's own transfer tax applies to every sale, and Measure ULA, often called the mansion tax, adds more on sales above a threshold that is adjusted each year. The City's Office of Finance posts the current rates. Confirm the numbers for your sale with your escrow officer or CPA. I'm not a tax professional, and this is not tax advice.
Can I build an ADU in Studio City?
The City of Los Angeles allows accessory dwelling units under its ADU ordinance, which follows state law, and the Department of Building and Safety has a pre-approved Standard Plan Program to speed up permits. Hillside lots near Mulholland Drive can also need scenic parkway design review. Start with the city's ADU page.
What are the tenant rules for rentals in Studio City?
Studio City follows City of LA rules. The Rent Stabilization Ordinance generally covers rentals first built on or before October 1, 1978, and the Just Cause Ordinance covers most other rentals. Both can require relocation payments for certain evictions. The LA Housing Department has the details. Is there a Metro station in Studio City?
The Universal City/Studio City Station on Lankershim Blvd, at the east edge of Studio City, is on the Metro B Line subway to North Hollywood, Hollywood, and Downtown LA. Metro buses run on Ventura Blvd, Laurel Canyon Blvd, and Coldwater Canyon Ave. See Metro.
